Tony Hopkins joined the Dufferin Hi-Land Bruce Trail club about 2000 and was soon on the Board, becoming Club President from 2004 to 2012. The Club had some challenges and Tony provided leadership with patience, wisdom and always a sense of humour. A favourite was his knack for sharing Club and Bruce Trail history, beginning with “once upon a time”.
Tony spent countless hours participating in all Club activities, always generous with praise for the many volunteers who pitched in to accomplish the task.
A bench has been installed on the trail south of Dufferin 21 with an appreciation plaque for Tony and his many contributions. On Saturday October 29th, 32 Club members hiked to the bench including Beth, Tony’s wife. Informative and humorous stories were shared while enjoying a view that is typical of the rolling hills of Mulmur with forests, pasture and crop lands. Autumn colours added to the beauty and peacefulness. Everyone returned to Carl Alexander and Lynda Vera’s Mulmur home for lunch where Tony and Beth were again thanked by many hiking friends.
The bench is also a mark of appreciation to the Cholvat/Campbell Family who allow the trail on their beautiful property.
