Seven Rivers Hike Series

Here is a ‘turn by turn’ documentation of the seven rivers hike series:

Humber River – 11.4 km – Maps 17, 18 (Caledon Section)

Difficulty: strenuous
Parking: East of Airport Road past the Taoist Tai Chi Centre on Mono 5 Sideroad (N 43.974055, W 79.984988)

From km 45.5, hike south crossing Mono 5 Sideroad and hike until you reach 7th Line EHS at km 44.0. Walk south along to road km 43.4 and head east to the viewpoint looking out over the Humber Valley. Next, hike down to km 41.8 where the Glen Haffy Side Trail heads off to the west. Remain on the main trail and continue to km 39.8 at Highway 9. Then turn around and return north to the parking lot.

Nottawasaga River – 13.1 km – Map 18 (Caledon Section)

Difficulty: moderate
Parking: Hockley Road (west of the Black Birch restaurant) east of km 61.3 (N 43.972857, W 80.056330)

Walk along the Hockley Road Side Trail to km 61.3, then climb north on the main trial to km 61.5 and follow the Tom East Side Trail to km 63.7. The turn right and head north along the main trail to km 64.6 where you turn right to follow the Isabel East Trail to km 65.4. Turn right and hike north to the far end of Cam Snell Side Trail at km 66.0, then follow the Side Trail back to the main trail at km 65.6. From there, follow the main trail back to Hockley Road ignoring the enticing side trails that you have already covered.

Boyne River – 10.41 km – Map 20 (Dufferin Hi-Land Section)

Difficulty: moderate
Parking: lot and Roadside parking at km 18.7 the south end of Centre Road from Sideroad 5, north of Primrose. (N 44.117420, W 80.128361)

Hike east on the main trail from km 18.7 to km 19.9, head north to km 20.5 at 1st Line EHS, cross the road, continue to Mulmur Lookout at km 21.8. Next, retrace your steps to km 19.9. Follow the Boyne Valley Side Trail south which leads to 1st Line EHS where you walk south along the road until you reach the Boyne Valley Side Trail, and follow that west. Join the main trail at km 16.3 and hike north with a short climb to mount Murphy’s Pinnacle at km 18.1, then head east on the main trail to km 18.7 where you return to the parking area.

Pine River – 10.75 km – Map 20 (Dufferin Hi-Land Section)

Difficulty: moderate
Parking: roadside at Whitfield Church at km 31.5 or 677002 Centre Rd (at 10 Sideroad), Mulmur (N 44.148522,W 80.136099)

Hike north on Centre Road from km 31.5 to a fork in the road at km 32.8, then take the left road and hike to km 34.9. Follow the main trail into the woods along the Pine River until you get to where the trail crosses the road at km 36.0. Continue west and north along to main trail with a detour at km 36.7 to climb to Bell Lookout and back. Then continue to hike along the pine River Fishing Pond to km 37.4 at 15 Sideroad. Turn right and follow the main trail to km 37.7 at Prince of Wales Road. From here hike east on the Kilgorie Side Trail and come out to River Road at km 35.1. Cross the road and hike along the Pine River retracing your steps to km 34.9 and up the gravel road to the parking area.

Noisy River – 10.2 km – Map 21 (Blue Mountains Section)

Difficulty: strenuous
Parking: roadside at km 6.2 on County Road 9 south of Dunedin. (N 44.274853, W 80.207767) Directions: from CR 89, north on CR 124 to to Grey CR 9, east to roadside parking on the right.
Hike south from CR 9 on the main trail, cross the Noisy River and hike to where the trail reaches a short gravel road off of Lavender Hill Rd. Then turn around and follow the trail north to your vehicles.

Mad River – 10.9 km – Map 22 (Blue Mountains Section)

Difficulty: strenuous
Parking: lot off County Road 124, east of Singhampton and west of Devil’s Glen Country Club in front of the Devil’s Glen Provincial Park gates. (N 44.361302, W 80.208208)

From km 30.1, walk to the viewing platform and return to the trail to follow the main trail to km 24.5, walk east along Ganaraska Trail, North on Concession Road 8 in Glen Huron. Just past Station Street, turn west to follow the Mad River Side Trail, then join the main trail at km 29.1 and return north to the parking lot.

Pretty River – 11.89 km – Map 23 (Blue Mountains Section)

Difficulty: Strenuous
Parking: “Snowdrifters Parking Area” or snowmobile parking lot at 549949 Pretty River Rd, Nottawa which is just west of Clearview Collingwood Townline and North of Duntroon. (N 44.4030927, W 80.275390)

Walk 380 meters on Pretty River road to catch the main trail, take it to the John Haigh Side Trail reaching the highest point of the Bruce trail. Then turn around, retrace your steps and follow Pretty River Side Trail. When it joins the main trail, follow it back to Pretty River Road and walk east to the parking lot.
