School Outreach Program

The Dufferin Hi-Land Bruce Trail club has a team of specially trained hike leaders offering a school outreach program that involves a 2 to 3 hour hike in Mono Cliffs provincial park. It’s mostly geared towards students in grades three, four and five though we can consider expanding beyond that. It’s an easy hike; mostly downhill with plenty of stops at points of interest. We try to relate as much as possible to the curriculum of each class wherever possible. This program is designed to introduce the kids to the flora and fauna of the park, the human history of the area, the formation of the Niagara Escarpment and the Bruce Trail Conservancy. This is our second year with this program and we’ve received a lot of encouraging feedback from the teachers as well as some very helpful critiques. The kids seem to love it as well. “I wish we could do this EVERY day!” and “Aw, is it over already?” are some of the comments we’ve been hearing on our hikes.

We charge nothing for these hikes; the only cost would be for transportation to the park. We want to spark an interest in the Bruce Trail Conservancy and the nature and lore of the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO world biosphere. Please contact us if you would like further information on our program.
